Brandon Barkus has announced that senior defender
Jill Goodrich, senior midfielder
Stephanie Goos and junior defender
Kate Timmons will serve as captains for the 2010 season.
Goodrich, who is a native of Coralville, Iowa was named All-NSIC third team during the 2009 season. This marks her third season as a captain for the Vikings.
A native of Newton, Iowa, Goos led the Vikings with six assists last season. She also scored three goals.
Timmon, who is from Overland Park, Kan., recorded one assist last season and had six shots.
All three captains had stellar performances in Friday's exhibition match against Dakota Wesleyan. Goos assisted Goodrich in scoring the Vikings' first goal of the match to erase a 1-0 deficit, while Timmons headed in a pass to take on a 2-1 lead over the Tigers.
“I'm excited with these three extraordinary women,” said Barkus. “Each of them has a keen ability to communicate, work hard and push their teammates to get better every day.”
Augustana will play two more exhibitions on the road against Missouri Western State on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. and Nebraska-Omaha on Aug. 28 at noon. The Vikings open in regular season play in Durango, Colo., on Sept. 3 at 4:30 p.m. against Mesa State (Colo.). Sept. 18 marks the first conference match for the Vikings as they host the University of Mary at 11 a.m.
