ROLLA, Mo. – Augustana split in the final day of the Middle of Everywhere Classic, beating Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-16) Saturday morning before falling to Rockhurst 3-0 (25-20, 25,23, 25-16) later in the day.
Augustana moves to 4-5 overall.
Lindsey Petersen racked up 14 kills and
Dani Haley tallied 39 assists against UAM.
Brooke Lewko added nine kills.
Grace Sanders recorded 13 digs for Augustana.
Early in the first set, Sanders served to give the Vikings a decisive eight point lead. Augustana continued to hold on to that edge over UAM throughout the remainder of the set.
The Vikings were able to go on another early run in the second set, but UAM caught up to surpass Augustana after a tie at 16-16. A back and forth battle ensued the remainder of the set until the Vikings closed out a 25-22 win.
Augustana ran with the momentum they acquired during the previous sets to take down UAM in the final set, never facing a deficit after a 5-5 tie.
The Vikings saw two close sets against Rockhurst but were not able to finish victorious in either.
The Vikings spent the entire first set against the Hawks playing catch up. Augustana was able to knot the score at 16-16 but immediately fell behind again and was never able to gain enough momentum to take the lead.
The second set was marked by a slow start for Augustana. A series of errors by the Vikings gave RU a 6-0 advantage. They would not look back from there, taking a 25-23 set victory.
RU rolled to a nine-point victory in the final set to take the match.
Hrdlichka and Peterson each led the Vikings with eight kills, while Lewko followed close behind with seven.
Haley totaled 34 assists in the match.
Sanders finished strong for the Vikings with 22 digs.
Augustana closed out the Middle of Everywhere Classic with a 3-1 record.
The Vikings will return home to welcome Upper Iowa in the first conference match of the season Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
