BOX SCORE
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Dani Haley handed out a match-high 31 assists as Augustana its home and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25, 25-17) Friday in Sioux Falls.
Augustana moves to 5-5 (1-0 NSIC), while UIU falls to 2-7 (0-2 NSIC).
Haley quarterbacked the Viking offense but was also potent scoring points herself. The sophomore finished with two service aces and five kills. Defensively, she also charted a match-high 16 digs.
Lindsey Petersen was the only Viking to break double figures in kills with 11.
The Vikings broke away from a 4-4 tie in the opening set by going on a 7-0 run. That lead would stick, and Augustana took the set 25-16.
Augustana jumped on UIU early in the second set, taking advantage of the Peacocks' shaky start offensively. UIU committed three straight attack errors to allow the Vikings to grab a 3-0 lead. The Vikings continued to inch away from the Peacocks as the set went on, settling on an eight-point set victory.
The Vikings would go on to take the third set as easy as the previous two, never trailing after taking a 2-1 lead.
Defensively, Augustana was strong, holding UIU to a .036 attack percentage.
“Haley did a nice job distributing the offensive evenly,” said head coach
Ashley Buckley. “We had a great offensive performance from each position. It is hard to sweep in this conference, and I'm very pleased with how the girls performed.”
The Vikings stay home tomorrow to face Winona State at 5:30 p.m. in a conference contest.
