SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Katie Shandri scored the lone goal for Augustana to tie the score 1-1 against Northern State Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The double-overtime match concluded with the score stalemated at 1-1.
The tie against NSU is Augustana's first of the season against a conference opponent and puts the Vikings' record at 2-3-2 (1-0-1 NSIC). The Wolves move to 2-2-3 (0-0-2 NSIC).
Shandri's goal marks her fourth this season. She also posted nine shots, with three on goal.
Katie Hurd recorded four shots--three of them on goal.
Defensively, both goalkeepers played solid. Augustana's
Amanda Wagner finished with 11 saves, while NSU's Dee Wood had 16 stops.
An action-packed first period was marked by seven shots from Augustana, none of which ever found the back of the net. NSU was more successful as Haley Burns snuck one past Wagner on the Wolves' first shot attempt of the match.
A foul by the Wolves in the second period allowed the Vikings a penalty kick, which Shandri effortlessly pushed past Woods to tie the score 1-1 in the 74th minute of play.
After the goal, Augustana outshot NSU 4-1 but was unable to score.
During the first-overtime, NSU outplayed Augustana offensively, outshooting the Vikings 6-0. Wagner made three saves.
The second-overtime brought a change in pace, with Augustana recording two shots to NSU's zero.
The match marked Augustana's fourth double-overtime contest this season. The Vikings have yet to win in that situation, having lost twice and tied twice.
The Vikings' next match will be Sept. 26 at home against Wayne State at 1 p.m.
