BISMARK, N.D. – Dani Haley recorded 35 assists to lead Augustana to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-23) conference victory Friday night in Bismark, N.D.
The win, which was Augustana's third straight, moves the Vikings to 7-5 (3-0 NSIC). U-Mary drops to 3-9 (0-4 NSIC).
Taylor Hrdlichka charted 10 kills in the match but
Brooke Lewko,
Chantel Tengwall and
Brianna Erickson also had solid offensive performances, posting seven kills each.
Grace Sanders dug up a team-high 17 balls.
The 35-assist outing was Haley's seventh 30-plus assist match of the season.
Lewko charted a kill to open the first set and help Augustana cruise through the remainder of the set. The Vikings would never see a deficit. The Vikings had as much as a nine point lead during the set but finished six points ahead of the Marauders at 25-19.
The Vikings carried the winning momentum into the next set, only allowing Mary to rack up 13 points. Early on the teams were evenly matched but at 12-10 the Vikings went on an eight-point run to steal the show. Jordan Spatanka and Lewko recorded two kills each to close the set and finalize the win.
The Vikings started slow in the final set, loosing the first three points but quickly regained strength and at 6-6 the Vikings stole the lead. Augustana would continue to stay on top of the Marauders until Mary had a six point run at 16-13 that would once again put them ahead. The score remained close as the set closed but the Vikings' strong offensive recorded three kills to win 25-23.
The Vikings didn't allow a single Marauder hitter to reach double figures.
Mary's offensive was plagued by errors, totaling 23 for the match.
Augustana will return to action tomorrow in Aberdeen, S.D. to play Northern State at 5 p.m.
