Augustana travels to No. 8 Wayne State

GAME NOTES (PDF)

This week:
Augustana (13-4, 6-4 NSIC) faces No. 8 Wayne State (13-1, 10-0 NSIC) on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.

Last time out: The Vikings dropped a pair of conference contests to Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth. Megan Doyle's jumper with two seconds left was off the mark and allowed BSU to retain its 79-78 lead as the Beavers upset Augustana Saturday afternoon. UMD's Lindsay Miller scored a game-high 32 points to lead her team to a 83-67 victory over Augustana and hand the Vikings their second straight loss.

The series: Augustana is 14-6 in the series against Wayne State. The Vikings began the series against the Wildcats on Dec. 16, 1989 and won seven consecutive games against WSC before dropping a 60-45 contest on Dec. 4, 1998. Last season, Augustana lost both contests to the Wildcats. Krauth has coached the Vikings during all 20 previous meetings with WSC.

Ranked: After Augustana's back-to-back losses to Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth last weekend, Augustana Fell out of the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll for the first time since the Vikings debuted at No. 22 during the first week of the poll on Nov. 23. The Vikings' ranking in the poll peaked at No. 16 on Dec. 14 but dropped to No. 21 after their second loss of the season to Minnesota State Moorhead on Dec. 18.

On the road: All four of Augustana's losses this season have come on the road. The Vikings currently hold a 2-4 away record, first falling 63-56 to Southwest Minnesota State to open conference action. Augustana has not had two consecutive blemishes like last weekends' losses to Bemidji State (78-79) and Minnesota Duluth (67-83) since last season when the Vikings dropped back-to-back contests to UMD and Minnesota State Moorhead in January.

Wildcats ranked: When Augustana squares off against Wayne State this weekend, it will be the first time this season the Vikings have faced a ranked opponent. WSC is currently the only conference foe to hold a ranking.

Foul trouble: Augustana sent Minnesota Duluth to the foul line 13 times last Sunday, from which Bulldogs picked up 20 of 23 points possible from the line. Augustana was 10 of 11 from the free throw line.

On the Board: The 19 points Kristi Board (Doland, S.D.) tallied against Minnesota Duluth was a season and game-high for the senior. Board hit 6 of 11 from the field and was 4 of 7 in 3-pointers for the afternoon. She also made all three shots attempted from the charity stripe.

Climbin' the charts: With 1,300 career points, Megan Doyle (Alexandria, S.D.) has a chance at making her way onto the list of the top 10 scorers at Augustana. As of now, she sits at No. 13 on the charts, but with 35 more points she will tie Julie Krauth for the No. 10 spot.
