SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana shot 57.8 percent from the floor and had five players in double-figure scoring en route to picking up a 101-53 victory over Upper Iowa Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Augustana and improves the Vikings to 14-5 (7-5 NSIC). UIU is 1-15 (1-11).
The shooting performance was the best since Feb. 23, 2001, when the Vikings shot 63.0 percent in a 94-77 victory over North Dakota.
Molly Hayes (21),
Megan Doyle (20),
Alex Feeney (14),
Cami Koehn (13) and
Kristi Board (12) were all in double-figure scoring.
Cassandra Deiters led UIU with 12 points.
The 48-point margin of victory was the largest for Augustana in a conference game since it beat UIU 104-49 last February in Sioux Falls.
The win also marked the second time this season the Vikings have scored 100 points. Augustana opened the season by beating William Penn 103-60.
At 9:16 in the second half, Hayes drilled a 3-pointer to record her 1,001 career point and become the 25th member of Augustana's 1,000-point club.
Augustana had a solid showing in the first half, never trailing the Peacocks and extending its lead to as much as 22, twice.
A six-point run by Augustana starting at 14:47 extended its 8-6 lead so that the Vikings were ahead by eight at 13:13.
The lead continued to grow as Koehn, Doyle and Board hit consecutive 3-pointers to assist in a nine-point run that put Augustana ahead 36-17.
Augustana was 59.4 percent from the field in the half with Doyle and Board tallying 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Lana Otting led UIU with nine points in the half.
The Vikings rolled in the second half, shooting 56.3 percent and outscoring the Peacocks 56-28.
Augustana committed just seven turnovers in the win--its fewest since having six against Northern State on Dec. 12.
Augustana returns to action Saturday evening, facing off against Winona State at 4 p.m.
