SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- No. 21 Augustana defeated Concordia University, St. Paul 84-75 behind the 24 point effort of
Megan Doyle Tuesday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Augustana is now a flawless 7-0 at home and the Vikings' overall record improves to 13-2 (6-2 NSIC). CU drops to 3-8 (2-5 NSIC).
Molly Hayes was one assist away from a second-straight double-double outing with 18 points and nine assists. Along with Doyle and Hayes in double figure scoring was
Alex Feeney with 18 points.
Jodi Batzel scored 16 points for the Golden Bears. Jineen Williams recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Augustana built a 5-0 lead three minutes into the first half, but with a two minute drought of scoring for the Vikings, CU managed to gain an 8-6 advantage.
Again at 12:19, Augustana was able to regain another five-point lead, which was again cut by the Golden Bears midway through the half after CU's Zoraa Quoie and Jineen Williams each hit a pair of free-throws, bringing the score to 17-16 for just a one-point Viking lead.
During the remainder of the half Augustana never lead by more than two points, while the Golden Bears had advantages of four both at 8:12 and at the break.
CU scored 14 points off the Vikings' 12 turnovers in the opening half.
Doyle nailed three 3-pointers and had 11 first-half points for the Vikings. The Golden Bears got 15 points from Rachel Hansen in the first half.
The Vikings went on a 20-2 run during a four-minute span at 16:21 in the second half, turning a 46-39 deficit into a 59-48 lead with 12:11 left in the contest.
CU followed it with a 16-5 run of its own to cut Augustana's lead to 65-64.
Kristi Board hit her second 3-pointer of the night at 3:15 to bring push the Vikings ahead 72-66.
With just more than a minute left Doyle made her second pair of free-throws in a 20 second time span for a 78-67 Viking lead.
Augustana finished 45.6 percent from the floor and hit 11 of 20 3-pointers (55 percent). The 3-point performance marked the second straight night the Vikings have connected on at least 50 percent of their attempts from behind the arc.
Augustana continues conference action this weekend on the road with trips to Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday and Sunday. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. both days.
