CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Augustana opened competition in the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals with a 23-9 win over San Francisco State and a 31-6 victory over No. 6 Minnesota State on Saturday at the Northern Iowa Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The wins set the Vikings up with an 11 a.m. meeting with No. 3 St. Cloud State tomorrow.
Augustana had little trouble with SFSU, winning all but three matches to move past the Gators.
The Vikings got major-decision victories from
Carl Serck at 174 pounds and
Ty Copsey at 197 pounds.
Jason Jeremiason (133 pounds),
Marcus Edgington (157 pounds),
Gavin Nelson (165 pounds),
Tom Davies (184 pounds) and
Lance Peters (285 pounds) also picked up wins.
Augustana lost just two matches to the sixth-ranked Mavericks later in the afternoon.
Jeremiason and Serck both collected wins by fall. Jeremiason needed just 2:02 to defeat Skylar Moore, while Serck pinned Aaron Norgen in 3:34.
Herda was also a winner by major decision over Jesse Westphal.
Jay Sherer, Edgington, Nelson, Copsey and Peters rounded out scoring with wins by decision.
The Vikings are now a perfect 4-0 in duals this season.
