Augustana drops second straight with loss at Minnesota Duluth

Minnesota Duluth's Lindsay Miller scored a game-high 32 points to lead her team to a 83-67 victory over No. 21 Augustana and hand the Vikings their second straight loss Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball in Duluth, Minn. 

UMD improves to 8-5 (6-4 NSIC).  Augustana is now 13-4 (6-4 NSIC). 

Kristi Board had 19 points for Augustana on 6 of 11 shooting from the field, while Megan Doyle and Molly Hayes were also in double-figure scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Vikings had 19 turnovers in loss.

The Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to begin the opening half before Doyle made a jumper at 16:11 to begin a string of five-points for the Vikings.

Despite the effort by Augustana to erase the deficit, UMD continued to pull ahead, building an 18-9 lead after Kelsey Hewitt made a layup at 11:29.

The Vikings answered with an 11-2 run to knot the score 20-20 midway through the half.

Board then hit two 3-pointers to give Augustana a 26-25 lead that would max at 30-25 with 3:56 left in the half.

UMD erased the deficit was 37-36 at the break.

Board led the Vikings with 14 points at the half. 

The Bulldogs made 5 of 7 from the free throw line in just more than two minutes of action in the second half to help them to a 48-41 lead.

Starting at 15:26, UMD earned six straight points from the charity line to bring the lead to 56-44.

Tessa Wilka nailed a 3-pointer at 13:16 and again at 10:18--the second of which ended a seven-point run for the Bulldogs that brought them ahead 65-52.

UMD's Lindsay Miller made consecutive jumpers with five minutes left in the half to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of 81-60.

The Bulldogs drilled 20 of 23 free throws in the afternoon, 14 of which came in the second half.

Augustana was 41.4 percent from the field. 

The last time Augustana lost two consecutive games was last season when the Vikings dropped back-to-back contests to UMD and Minnesota State Moorhead in January.

The Vikings return to action on the road on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Wayne State.
