DULUTH, Minn. - Augustana was swept 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) by No. 4 Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.
The Bulldogs remain perfect on the season and improve to 16-0 (8-0 NSIC). Augustana falls to 10-5 (4-3 NSIC).
The Vikings hit .136 in the match and
Holly Hafemeyer led the team with seven kills.
Kayla Wallerich recorded 23 assists and
Lindsey Petersen had nine digs.
The Bulldogs opened the first set with the advantage, but the Vikings were never far behind. Augustana was trailing by just two when UMD won four-straight points for a 21-15 advantage. The Vikings continued to battle, winning the next two points off a kill from
Jordan Spatenka and a service ace from
Lindsey Petersen, but Stephanie Brown came back with a kill for the Bulldogs to stop Augustana's momentum. Augustana managed to win a couple more points, but UMD took the set 25-21. The Bulldogs outhit the Vikings .257 to .139 in the set.
UMD was unstoppable in the second set, recording 18 kills and allowing the Vikings just six. The Bulldogs held a solid lead when they went on a five-point run for a 19-8 advantage. UMD ran away with the set, 25-15, and held the Vikings to a .029 hitting percentage.
Augustana put up a fight in the third set, taking its first lead of the match at 7-6 off a UMD attack error. The lead continued to switch until UMD won a string of three points for a 13-11 advantage. The Bulldogs kept its lead throughout the rest of the set, recording 19 kills for a 25-20 victory.
UMD hit .307 in the afternoon and had three in double-digit kills.
Both UMD and Augustana had six team blocks.
The Vikings host Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
