Augustana falls to Minnesota State Moorhead

- Augustana dropped its third-straight contest at home Friday evening as Minnesota State Moorhead topped the Vikings 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 25-18) in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.

MSUM improves to 9-9 (7-4 NSIC) and the Vikings are now 10-8 (4-6 NSIC).

Holly Hafemeyer led Augustana with 15 kills and hit .355.

Dani Haley helped the Vikings hit .195 in the evening with 45 assists.

Kayla Wallerich and Lindsey Petersen had 17 and 16 digs apiece, respectfully.

The Vikings filled the first set with errors and were only able to win three of the first 13 points to open the evening. Augustana was held to a hitting percentage of .093, while Morgan Gradishar had four kills to help the Dragons to a .209 attack percentage en route to topping the Vikings 25-18.

Set two featured an impressive showing from the Vikings– with Hafemeyer racking up seven kills to keep Augustana battling point-for-point with MSUM. With the score tied at 24-24, the Dragons crumbled and recorded a pair of attack errors to give the Vikings the set.

The teams were evenly matched again in the third set to make for another close battle. The Vikings broke out a .286 attack percentage in the set with 18 kills, while MSUM hit .364 with 19 kills. Augustana looked to be making a comeback when down 22-24, recording three-straight kills to knot the score, but MSUM claimed its second set, 26-24.

The Dragons continued its hot streak offensively in the fourth set, hitting .361. MSUM jumped out to a 7-2 lead and went on to gain a 20-9 cushion before taking the match with a 25-18 victory.

Augustana returns to the court tomorrow evening for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Minnesota, Crookston.
