Vikings shut down Minnesota State Moorhead

- Augustana took advantage of its corner kick opportunities to propel the Vikings to a 3-0 shutout over Minnesota State Moorhead Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer.

The Vikings improve to 8-7-0 (5-5-0 NSIC). MSUM drops to 8-5-1 (4-5-1 NSIC)

Augustana's defense didn't allow the Dragons a single shot in the first period and MSUM recorded just seven in the game.

The Vikings led a balanced attack with nine shots apiece between the two periods.

Kate Timmons scored on a header off a corner kick from Maren Werth to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead at 14:45. It's her second goal of the season.

MSUM recorded the first shots of the second period but Amanda Wagner recorded all three saves to help keep the Dragons scoreless. Wagner finished the game with six saves for Augustana and recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

In the 72nd minute, Stephanie Stevens fired a corner kick to Jessica Madson who found the back of the net for the first time this season. Madson helped lead the team with three shots on goal.

Jessie Huff put in the Vikings' final goal at 72:15 off a penalty kick. She also had three shots on goal for Augustana.

Augustana returns to its home pitch tomorrow, facing Minnesota, Crookston at 1 p.m.
