No. 4 Concordia University, St. Paul tops Augustana

- No. 4 Concordia University, St. Paul's Megan Carlson recorded a match-high 21 kills to help the Golden Bears top Augustana 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22) Tuesday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.

CU improves to 23-1 (14-1 NSIC) and Augustana is now 13-10 (7-8 NSIC).

It's the first time since Oct. 31, 2008, that the Vikings have taken a set from CU.

Holly Hafemeyer led the offensive charge for the Vikings, racking up 15 kills with no errors for a .385 hitting percent.

Dani Haley had 41 assists and Kayla Wallerich tallied 23 digs.

The first set was tied 6-6 when a bad set by CU earned Augustana its first advantage of the match. The Viking lead wasn't held long though as the Golden Bears created distance in the score, outhitting Augustana .487 to .256.

The Vikings put together a string of four points to open the second set. CU fought its way back into the match and tied the score at 8-8. At 19-17, the Vikings had a kill from Mikayla Gallagher and Hafemeyer, while CU recorded two errors to further Augustana's lead. Dani Haley gave the Vikings the set off a kill.

CU raced out to a 6-2 lead and Augustana wasn't able to rally back, recording nine kills with nine errors to drop the third set. 

The Vikings threatened in the final set, cutting its deficit to just one at 23-22 after a three-point run, but CU took back-to-back points for the victory.  

Augustana is on the road this weekend, playing St. Cloud State and No. 4 Concordia University, St. Paul. The Vikings face SCSU Friday at 7 p.m. and CU Saturday at 4 p.m.
