Hafemeyer; Vikings roll past St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn.
- Holly Hafemeyer had a match-high 13 kills to lead Augustana to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-18) victory over St. Cloud State Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.

The Vikings improve to 14-10 (8-8 NSIC) and SCSU drops to 5-18 (1-14 NSIC).

Dani Haley recorded 32 assists and Kayla Wallerich led the team with 14 digs.

Courtney Ysker added five blocks for the Vikings.

SCSU jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set but Augustana came back to tie the score at 4-4 off a kill from Hafemeyer. The Huskies edged a 9-6 advantage on an error by the Vikings, but Augustana tied it three different times before gaining a definitive 14-11 lead with three-straight service aces by Christine Bielski. With Augustana ahead 23-17, SCSU went on a four-point run to come within two of knotting the score but the Huskies gave the Vikings the set off a pair of errors.

The Vikings' momentum carried them in the second set as they won six-straight points at 2-2 to go ahead 8-2. Augustana continued to roll and an error by SCSU gave Augustana a 19-10 lead. Hafemeyer smashed her sixth kill of the set to end it for the Huskies.  

Augustana started slow in the third set as SCSU raced out to a 5-2 lead. The Vikings took charge late, winning eight out of the next 10 points after a tie at 8-8. A kill from Ysker gave Augustana the final set in its sweep.

The Vikings hit .194 in the match compared to the Huskies .043.

Augustana plays its final conference road match tomorrow at No. 4 Concordia University, St. Paul.
