DULUTH, Minn. - Minnesota Duluth's Maureen Stormont scored in the 88th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory over Augustana Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament in Duluth, Minn.
The Vikings finish their season 10-9 overall. UMD is now 11-5-1 on the season and will play Minnesota State on Friday in the semifinals of the tournament.
The first period ended with the score tied 0-0, although the Bulldogs kept Augustana's
Amanda Wagner busy in the goal as she made six saves to Hanna Iaizzo's two. UMD outshot the Vikings 12-2 in the period.
The second period opened with
Jessica Madson taking a pass from
Ellie Westemeyer at 47:30 to put the Vikings on the scoreboard first. She recorded four of Augustana's eight shots in the game to lead the team. Two of Madson's shots were on goal.
Just three minutes later, Jennifer Smith gave the Bulldogs a goal off a shot into the back right corner to tie the score.
Iaizzo made her only save in the period off a shot by
Kate Timmons in the 71st minute.
Maureen Stormont chipped the ball past Wagner at 87:16 from just two yards out to score the game-winning goal for UMD.
Wagner stopped three of UMD's 17 shots in the second period.
The contest marks the final game for Augustana's

Stacy Dally,
Jessica Perez, Timmons and
Raelyn Walczak.
