Augustana downs U-Mary to earn first road win of 2011-12

Alex Feeney and Faith Tinklenberg each reached double-figures in scoring and rebounds to help Augustana to a dominant 93-65 victory over U-Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Friday evening. 

Augustana (6-1, 3-0 NSIC) earns its sixth-straight victory and U-Mary is now 4-3 (1-2 NSIC).

In Feeney's fourth double-double of the season she tallied 14 points and collected 10 rebounds. She also led the team with six assists. Tinklenberg scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds in her second-career double-double. 

Ashley paced the Vikings in scoring with 16 points and Molly Hayes notched 15.

Augustana took an early lead in the game and the Vikings earned their first double-digit advantage, 20-10, after a 3-pointer from Ashley at 12:19.  

A 3-point basket by Sophie Kenney put the Vikings ahead 24-13 with just under 10 minutes remaining until break, but U-Mary rallied back with a 10-5 run that cut its deficit to 29-23.

The Vikings finished the half with a 16-4 run of their own for a 47-27 advantage at the break.

The Marauders had 16 turnovers in the first half and Augustana had nine.

Tinklenberg made a series of three-straight buckets from behind the arc to open the second half,  which helped keep Augustana rolling as the Vikings stretched its lead to 60-32 at 16:29.

With 15:08 remaining in the game, Ashley's free-throws gave the Vikings a 32-point, 66-34 lead, their largest of the evening.

U-Mary never trimmed its deficit to more than 24 points to close the game, shooting just 20 percent (2-10) from 3-point range in the final half. The Vikings were 7-14 from behind the arc in the second half and finished the game 43.3 percent (29-67) from the field.

Augustana outrebounded U-Mary 50 to 35.

The Vikings travel to Aberdeen, S.D., tomorrow to take on Northern State at 6 p.m.
