ABERDEEN, S.D. - Krista Rabenberg logged a double-double and Northern State held Augustana to a season-low 54 points as the Wolves topped the Vikings 67-54 Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball in Aberdeeen, S.D.
NSU improves to 16-6 (13-5 NSIC); Augustana drops to 18-7 (11-7 NSIC).
Rabenberg had a game-high 21 points and snagged 10 rebounds to lead the Wolves. It was her first double-double of the season. Jodi Reinschmidt added 17 points.
Emily Schulte scored a career-high 12 points for the Vikings. No other Viking was in double figures, including
Megan Doyle, who had scored at least 11 points in every game this season heading into the night. The senior had nine points on the evening.
The Vikings entered the game averaging 79.0 points per contest. Their previous season low prior to Friday's 54-point output was a 56-point outing against Southwest Minnesota State back in December.
The Wolves scorched the nets in the first half, shooting 56.0 percent (14 of 25). That performance keyed NSU to a lead of 11 points midway through the half.
The Vikings went the first 12 minutes with just four field goals. By then, the Wolves had established a 26-12 advantage.
NSU rode the hot shooting to a 43-27 halftime lead. Radenberg had 15 points at the break for the Wolves.
The Vikings failed to mount a threatening comeback in the second half. NSU saw its lead grow to as large as 18 points just inside the half.
A layup from Doyle at the 16:03 mark gave the Vikings an 11-point difference to work from at 47-26, but the Wolves opened their lead up to 24 points with four minutes left.
Augustana shot 33.9 percent (19 of 56) in the loss.
The Wolves were ranked No. 7 in the latest Central Region rankings released Wednesday, while the Vikings checked in at No. 6. The top eight teams from each region advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Augustana travels to U-Mary tomorrow for a 6 p.m. conference contest.
