U-Mary rides hot shooting to victory over Vikings

BISMARCK, N.D.
– Anthony Moody scored 32 points to key a 90-81 U-Mary victory over Augustana Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate basketball in Bismarck, N.D.

U-Mary improves to 19-4 (15-4 NSIC), while Augustana slips to 16-7 (13-6 NSIC).

The Marauders shot 55.8 percent (29 of 52) from the floor and picked up their 12th consecutive victory. Five U-Mary players were in double figures.

The Vikings got a got a game-high 34 points from Cody Schilling, who finished 10 of 17 from the field and 11 of 11 from the free-throw line. He also added seven rebounds.

Cameron McCaffrey netted 19 points for Augustana, and Derrick De Zeeuw also reached double figures with 10 points.

U-Mary also drained 14 3-pointers in the win and committed just four turnovers.

The Marauders held a lead for the final 30 minutes of the contest.

The two teams combined for just one field goal in the game's first five minutes. The Vikings were the beneficiaries of a McCaffrey jumper two minutes in.

U-Mary, however, stormed back from its initial dry spell and proceeded to build a double-figure lead in the next 11 minutes. The Marauders were up by as much as 17 points in the first half.

The Marauders connected a 56.7 percent clip in the first half to build a 44-28 halftime lead. Moody had 15 points at the break.

U-Mary held a double-figure for the entirety of the second half, though Augustana had the deficit down to 10 points four different times before slicing the difference to nine points at 85-76 with just more than one minute left.

A Schilling 3-pointer with 23 seconds left again made it a nine-point affair, but the Marauders had the game in hand.

The Vikings shot 60.7 percent (17 of 28) in the second half and finished 44.6 percent (25 of 56) for the contest.

The 30-point outing was Schilling's second of the season.

U-Mary is now within one game of first place in the NSIC.

Augustana opens a three-game homestand next Saturday when the Vikings host Wayne State at 6 p.m.
