SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana held Wayne State to just 11 second-half points en route to a 69-47 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory Saturday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Augustana improves to 17-7 (14-6 NSIC), while WSC drops to 11-13 (7-13 NSIC).
Leif Nomeland's 17 points paced the Vikings.
Cameron McCaffrey added 15 points,
Trevor Hass had 12 and
Cody Schilling netted 10.
Vontrel Seroryer scored 17 points for the Wildcats.
Augustana shot 56.6 percent (30 of 53) from the floor, marking the sixth time this season the Vikings have eclipsed the 50-percent mark.
While the second half belonged to the Vikings, WSC owned a lead the entire first half.
The Wildcats took the only significant lead of the half when there were just three minutes left. Vontrell's 3-pointer at the 2:54 mark gave his team a 32-24 advantage.
The Vikings shot a blazing 57.7 percent (15 of 26) from the floor in the first half, while the Wildcats were also hot, connecting at a 46.4 percent clip.
Seroyer's 10 first-half points for WSC led both teams.
Hass and Schilling each had eight points for the Vikings at the break.
Augustana used the first two minutes of the second half to take its first lead of the game. Eight points from Nomeland, including back-to-back 3-pointers by the sophomore, quickly put the Vikings ahead 40-36.
Augustna held on to its lead for the remainder of the contest.
WSC managed just 11 points in the second half. Nomeland outscored the entire Wildcat team in the second half with 15 points.
In the final eight minutes, WSC made just one field goal.
The Vikings captialized on 17 Wildcat turnovers and turned them into 28 points.
Augustana will finish the regular season next weekend at home, hosting Minnesota State Moorhead and Minnesota, Crookston.
