Cody Schilling scored a career-high 44 points to guide Augustana to a 90-66 victory over Minnesota, Crookston Saturday night in both teams' regular season finales in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Augustana moves to 18-8 (15-7 NSIC). UMC, which will not qualify for postseason competition, finishes its season 7-19 (3-19 NSIC).
The win secured the No. 3 seed for the upcoming NSIC Tournament for the Vikings. They will play the loser of tonight's St. Cloud State/Concordia University, St. Paul game.
Schilling finished 14 of 22 from the field and 3 of 4 from behind the arc. He was also 13 of 13 from the free-throw line. The junior's performance is the best since Cody Levinson netted 40 points against Dakota State on Dec. 20, 2000.
Cameron McCaffrey added 24 points on the night.
Eric Dearden's 16 points led the Golden Eagles.
Augustana never trailed in the first half--or in the game--owning as large as a 19-point lead.
Behind 20 first-half points from Schilling, the Vikings had a 16-6 lead six minutes in. That grew to a 36-17 advantage seven minutes later.
Schilling's explosive first half grouped with a 53.6 percent performance from the field and seven 3-pointers afforded Augustana a 48-37 lead at intermission.
The second half also belonged to Schilling. He scored another 24 points and had eclipsed the 40-point mark with more than five minutes remaining.
The Vikings largest lead came with 3:30 left when they held a 25-point advantage.
Augustana finished 49.2 percent (29 of 59 from the floor) and 47.8 percent (11 of 23) from behind the arc. The Vikings also committed just eight turnovers.
UMC outrebounded Augustana 38-29.
Augustana's matchup for the NSIC Tournament will be announced later this evening.
