Vikings top Northern State, MSU Moorhead at Husky Dome Classic

ST. CLOUD, Minn.
- Augustana stayed perfect on the season with two wins Sunday at the Husky Dome Classic, beating Northern State 7-4 and Minnesota State Moorhead 16-4 in six innings.

Augustana improves to 9-0.

Theresa McMahon, Jenny Brown, Traci Fransen, Kelsey Kalkman and Brittany Coufal each collected two hits in the Vikings' win against NSU to start the day. Fransen also logged three RBIs.

Chelsey Durland worked 4.1 innings to close the game; she didn't allow a single run and struckout five batters to move to 4-0.

The Vikings had a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Ground-rule doubles from Elizabeth Murray and Fransen paired with a single from Fransen pushed in Augustana's quartet of runs.

NSU (1-4) evened the contest at 2-2 with runs in both the second and third innings.

But Augustana took its decisive lead in the third inning after Chelsi Winskowski led off with a triple and was hit in three batters later by double from Coufal.

The Vikings tacked on one run each in the fourth and sixth innings to add insurance.

Augustana unloaded 13 hits in the win.

The Viking offense continued to grind hard in its second game of the day against MSUM (0-3). Augustana charted 17 hits en route to its six-inning, 16-4 victory.

McMahon, Murray, Fransen and Kalkman each had home runs in the win. McMahon and Kalkman drove in four runs apiece.

Mickey Anderson earned her second win of the season. In four innings of work, she allowed three earned runs and struckout two Dragons.

The Vikings led 7-0 by the fifth inning and scored nine runs in the sixth to cut the contest short via the 10-run rule.

Augustana recorded three hits in the both the first and third innings to push in three runs each, while Brown and Fransen singles in the fourth got the Brown on and drove in to push the Viking lead to 7-1.

In the sixth inning, Augustana received home runs from McMahan, Murray and Kalkman to key a nine-run inning.

Augustana has now outscored its opponents 98-18 in 2011.

The Vikings return to action March 17 to 22 when they travel to Kissimmee, Fla., for 10 contests at the Rebel Spring Games.
