Megan Doyle hit two free-throws with 7.1 seconds left to give Augustana a three-point lead and help her Vikings to a 68-65 victory over Minnesota State Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Augustana improves to 17-6 (10-6 NSIC) and has now won 17-straight games at home. MSU is 11-9 (8-8 NSIC).
Three Vikings were in double figures.
Alex Feeney led all players with 17 points, while Doyle had 13 and
Molly Hayes had 12.
Ali Wilkinson led MSU with 14 points, and Laura Weber grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.
The Mavericks scored eight-straight points to open the half before
Kristi Board made a layup to put the Vikings on the scoreboard three minutes in.
Augustana never managed a lead and grew its deficit to as much as nine points before closing the half trailing by five.
Neither team found its grove from the floor; Minnesota State was 27 percent and Augustana was 25.8 percent.
Doyle was the only Viking to hit a 3-pointer in the half as Augustana was 1 of 8.
Weber led both teams with nine points.
Augustana's accuracy improved in the second half, and the Vikings took their first lead of the game at 15:40 behind a 3-pointer from Feeney to go up 39-38.
The Vikings then went on a 12-1 run and, within it, extended their lead to double-figures as Hayes and Feeney each had five of those points.
Augustana held a 64-52 advantage with 3:48 left in the half, but a 10-2 run put the Mavericks within two points of the Vikings with one minute left of play.
Despite the action, the Vikings managed to retain their lead.
Hillar Paulson's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left put her Mavericks within one point, but Doyle's free throws were enough to put away the game.
The Mavericks had 10 steals in the contest, while the Vikings had nine.
Both teams improved from the field in second half. Augustana finished 45.5 percent, and MSU was 33.8 percent.
The Vikings host Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow at 4 p.m.
