Vikings split at Rebel Spring Games Friday

KISSIMMEE, Fla.
- No. 14 Augustana first defeated Tiffin 2-1 before being edged 2-1 by No. 12 Indianapolis in eight innings in Day 2 of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

The loss to UIndy is the first of the season for the Vikings who move to 12-1. Tiffin drops to 8-6, while UIndy improves to 15-6-1.

Ashley Meyer's stayed a perfect 5-0 in the win against Tiffin. She pitched all seven innings and tallied six strikeouts and no walks.

Kelsey Kalkman had the only RBI in the game and also added one hit.

Brittany Coufal led the Vikings with two hits.

In the top of the fourth, Tiffin scored one run but Augustana responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Kalkman smashed a homerun to tie the score. Chelsey Durland's walk was then followed by a double by Brittany Coufal that brought Durland home after an error by the catcher.

Durland's record drops to 4-1 with the Vikings loss to UIndy. She recorded eight strikeouts and six walks, while giving up five hits.

No Vikings recorded an RBI in the game, but Jenny Brown had two hits. Lindsay Spanton and Taylor Kapsch each had one.

UIndy scored its first run in the bottom of the first.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that Augustana moved the score to 1-1.

International tiebreaker rules went into effect in the eighth inning with the score still tied 1-1. UIndy's Cori Eckerle was placed on second to begin the inning and moved to third base after Lauren Edwards grounded out. A single from Krysta Bradford brought Eckerle home to win the game.

The Vikings return to the field tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games. The Vikings first face Stonehill at noon followed by Wayne State (Mich.) at 2 p.m.
