BOX SCORE VS MERRIMACK
CLERMONT, Fla. - No. 14 Augustana first defeated No. 21 Dowling 3-0 before dropping 6-5 to Merrimack on Tuesday evening in the Vikings' final day of action in Florida.
Augustana moves to 16-3. Dowling is 10-1, while Merrimack improves to 1-4.
In seven innings of work,
Ashley Meyer allowed Dowling just two hits, while striking out six batters and walking zero.
Lindsay Spanton and
Kelsey Kalkman earned the only RBIs in the game, each tallying one.
Jenny Brown,
Elizabeth Murray and Tracy Fransen each had one hit.
In the bottom of the first, Augustana scored two runs to hold a 2-0 advantage.
It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that Fransen scored the third run for the Vikings after Kalkman grounded into a double play.
Against Merrimack,
Mickey Anderson pitched all 6.0 innings. She struck out nine and allowed ten hits.
Murray had two RBIs,
Theresa McMahon had one along with
Traci Fransen and
Taylor Kapsch.
Murray also had two hits along with
Chelsey Durland, while Brown, McMahon and Coufal each had one.
Brown scored for the Vikings in the first inning off a ground out from Fransen.
In the bottom of the second Merrimack plated two.
Augustana gained the advantage once more in the fifth inning as four Vikings reached home.
With the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Merrimack's Glovannini smacked a home run to steal the lead 6-5.
Next up for the Vikings is a home game against the University of Sioux Falls on March 31.
