DULUTH, Minn. - For the first time this season Augustana wasn't able to score a run in a 3-0 loss in the first of two games against Minnesota Duluth on Monday afternoon in Duluth, Minn. The Vikings battled back for a 2-1 victory in Game 2 against the Bulldogs.
The games were originally scheduled for Sunday in Bemidji, Minn., but weather and poor field conditions prompted the change of schedule.
Augustana's record moves to 27-5 (8-1 NSIC). UMD is 17-13 (6-4 NSIC).
Ashley Meyer had her second loss of the season, giving up 13 hits in Game 1.
Lindsay Spanton and
Jenny Brown recorded the only two hits for the Vikings.
UMD's Megan Mullen struck out 13 Vikings in her win.
UMD scored its first run in the bottom of the first and added its final two in the third inning.
In Game 2,
Chelsey Durland threw all 7.0 innings of the Vikings' win. She allowed seven hits and had six strikeouts.
Brown added another two hits in the game, while
Traci Fransen and Spanton each had an RBI.
Augustana earned its two runs in the first inning. Fransen doubled to score Brown and
Elizabeth Murray scored off a ground out from Spanton.
It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth that Kierra Jeffers hit a home run for the Bulldogs to score their lone run.
Next up for Augustana is a doubleheader against Minnesota State on Wednesday. The pair of twinbills will begin at 3 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.
