Augustana's hot bats help sweep St. Cloud State

Augustana was on fire offensively as it outscored St. Cloud State 6-1 in Game 1 and had a 7-3 win in Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings improve to 31-5 (12-1 NSIC). SCSU drops to 19-18 (4-8 NSIC).

Augustana connected on eight hits in Game 1 and Theresa McMahon and Traci Fransen each had two. Fransen led the Vikings with two RBIs and McMahon added one.

Ashley Meyer pitched 7.0 innings for Augustana to earn her 15th win of the season.

The score remained 0-0 until SCSU brought in a run in the top of the fourth.

Fransen scored in the fourth inning for the Vikings.

The Vikings had a big fifth inning, scoring four runs. First Elizabeth Murray smashed a double to bring McMahon home. Fransen then singled to score both Murray and Jenny Brown. Spanton was able to reach first off an error, which allowed Fransen to bring in the final run of the inning.

A double by McMahon in the sixth inning pushed in Augustana's final run.

The Vikings continued to tally hits in Game 2, recording 11. McMahon had three hits  for one RBI, while Spanton had two hits to bring in three RBIs.

Chelsea Durland (10-2) was in the circle for the Vikings. She had six strikeouts and allowed eight hits.

The Vikings opened Game 2 strong, scoring a pair of runs to take an immediate lead.

The Huskies answered back in the second inning as Emily Edgerton homered to tie the score 2-2.

SCSU broke the tie in the fourth inning by adding its final run of the game.

The Vikings began its rally in the fourth inning, as Kelsey Kalkman drilled a homerun.

A four-run inning by Augustana in the top of the sixth secured the win. Spanton lead the way, hitting her fifth homerun of the season. Hits from Chelsi Winskowski and McMahon brought in the final runs.

The Vikings will play another conference doubleheader on Monday at home against Concordia University, St. Paul at 1 p.m.
