SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 12-ranked Augustana continued its winning streak with a conference doubleheader sweep of Minnesota, Crookston Friday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Vikings earned a 3-0 win in Game 1 and won by the eight-run rule in Game 2, defeating the Golden Eagles 8-0 in five innings.
Ashley Meyer earned the win for the Vikings in Game 1, pitching 7.0 innings to improve to 17-2. She had 10 strikeouts, zero walks and allowed seven hits.
Theresa McMahon,
Traci Fransen and
Brittany Coufal each had one RBI and one hit in the game.
McMahon smashed her seventh home run of the season to score Augustana's first run in the third inning.
Coufal singled in the fourth inning to send
Lindsay Spanton home, brining the Vikings' lead to 2-0.
Fransen belted a homer in the sixth inning, scoring Augustana's final run.
Chelsey Durland gave up just one hit in 5.0 innings in the circle in Game 2. She is now 12-2 on the season.
The Vikings belted nine hits with
Taylor Kapsch leading the way with two.
Fransen scored three RBIs with the home run she slammed in the opening inning. It was her ninth homer of the season. It was a dominant first inning for the Vikings with
Elizabeth Murray and Coufal each driving in one run off their hits. Coufal scored the sixth run of the inning when Chelsei Winskowski reached on an error.
Augustana's final two runs were scored in the fifth inning. Spanton singled to bring Murray home, and with the bases loaded Kapsch hit a single which scored Fransen.
The Vikings return to their home field for the last time during the regular season tomorrow against Minnesota State Moorhead for Senior Day. The doubleheader begins at noon.
