Home runs propel No. 12 Augustana to 11th straight win

- No. 12 Augustana belted four home runs in its first game of a conference doubleheader against Minnesota State Moorhead to blank the Dragons 15-0 and added another two hits over the fence in Game 2 to pick up an 8-0 victory Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Augustana has now won 11 straight to improve to 37-5 (18-1 NSIC). MSUM drops to 11-19 (3-14 NSIC).

The Vikings have now hit 50 home runs this season.

Ashley Meyer (18-2) pitched 4.0 innings and gave up three hits. Mickey Anderson pitched the final inning for the Vikings and gave up no hits and had one strikeout.

Lindsay Spanton slammed two home runs in Game 1 and also had a hit to lead the team with four RBIs.

Spanton's homered in the first inning to score and three runs and hit another home run in the third inning. The Vikings lead 5-0 after the bottom of the third.

Theresa McMahon blasted a homer in the fourth to earn two RBIs and Traci Fransen also slugged a homer in the inning to add another three runs. Also adding hits in the Vikings' 10 run inning was Brittany Coufal and Taylor Kapsch.

Fransen's homer was her 34th career home run and she is now tied with Angie Hopkins for the record.

Chelsey Durland (13-2) pitched all 5.0 innings and allowed just two hits in Game 2.

Theresa McMahon and Kelsey Kalkman each had three RBIs to lead the team.

Elizabeth Murray slugged a homer in the opening inning for the Vikings.

McMahon hit her second home run of the day in the third inning which also scored Chelsi Winskowski. Lindsay Spanton and Kelsey Kalkman each doubled in the inning as well for the Vikings to lead 5-0.

Three more runs were scored in the fifth inning by Augustana off hits from Kalkman and McMahon.

Augustana will finish its second game with Southwest Minnesota State that began earlier in the month but was suspended because of darkness on Monday at 2 p.m. The Vikings currently lead the game 4-0 in the fourth inning.
