Theresa McMahon drilled homers as the leadoff batter in both of No. 10 Augustana's pair of games against No. 12 Winona State for the Vikings to earn their 15th straight win Thursday afternoon in Winona, Minn. Augustana had a 6-2 victory over the Warriors in Game 1 and won Game 2, 8-5.
The Vikings improve to 41-5 (22-1 NSIC). WSU drops to 32-9 (16-6 NSIC).
Traci Fransen slammed her 35th career homerun in Game 2 to reset Augustana's record.
Eleven Viking hits were recorded in the game.
Jenny Brown,
Elizabeth Murray,
Lindsay Spanton and
Chelsey Durland each tallied two hits. Murray led the team with three RBI's.
McMahon's home run in the opening inning was followed by a single from Spanton to score Murray.
Murray gave Augustana its third run in the fourth inning by blasting a homer.
WSU's only two runs were earned in the fifth inning after Bjelland hit a home run for 2 RBI's.
In the sixth inning, McMahon walked and Brown doubled before Murray singled to center field, scoring a pair of runs.
Chelsey Durland led off batting for the Vikings in the seventh inning and smashed her third home run of the season to score Augustana's final run.
Durland pitched the first 4.0 innings of Game 2 in the win and Meyer finished the game in the circle. Durland gave up nine hits and WSU added one more hit against Meyer.
Fransen had a strong bat with four hits and three RBI's. Spanton also had three RBI's.
The Vikings earned another early lead in the second game with a homer from McMahon and an RBI from Spanton in the opening inning.
WSU cut its deficit to one with a home run in the second inning.
Fransen's record setting home run scored Murray in the third inning.
Augustana took a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning off hits from Fransen and Spanton.
The Warriors fought for a comeback in the fifth inning, scoring four runs off four hits to cut its deficit to 7-5.
McMahon hit her team leading 13th homer in the top of the sixth.
Augustana concludes its regular season on Saturday with a conference doubleheader on the road against Wayne State at 1 p.m.
