Vikings pitch two shutouts, top U-Mary in doubleheader

- Chelsey Durland threw a no-hitter for Augustana to defeat U-Mary 6-0 in Game 2 and the Vikings went six innings for a 9-0 victory over the Marauders in Game 1 on Sunday afternoon. 

The sweep of U-Mary makes Augustana (23-4) 4-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Marauders are 11-11 (0-4 NSIC).

Augustana had three homeruns on the day, one of which came from Kelsey Kalkman in Game 1 to help her lead the team with four RBIs. She leads the Vikings with nine homeruns this season. Kalkman had two hits in the game.

Elizabeth Murray and Lindsay Spanton each had three hits, while Traci Fransen had three RBIs in the game.

Ashley Meyer put together an impressive performance in the circle to move her record to 11-1. She had seven strikeouts and one walk, allowing six hits.

Three Viking runs were scored in the first inning.

Theresa McMahon smashed a homerun in the second inning to put the Vikings ahead 4-0.

Murray singled to second base in the fourth inning to score Kapsh, and a double by Fransen brought in the second run of the inning from Murray.

Kalkman's homer in the sixth inning scored two runs from Spanton and Fransen.

Durland added 10 strikeouts to her no hitter in Game 2 for the Vikings.

Brittany Coufal and Taylor Kapsch each had two RBIs and one hit to lead Augustana.

McMahon scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning off a single from Fransen.

Three additional Viking runs were scored in the fifth inning off hits from Kapsch and McMahon.

Brittany Coufal hammered a homerun in the sixth inning, scoring Spanton.

Next up for Augustana is a doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday in Marshall, Minn., at 3 p.m.
