MARSHALL, Minn. -
Elizabeth Murray belted a solo home run in the top of the 16th inning to break a 1-1 tie and help Augustana to a 2-1, extra-innings victory over Southwest Minnesota State in a conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Marshall, Minn. Game 2 was suspended indefinitely because of darkness in the top of the fourth with Augustana leading 4-0. A continuation date for the game will be announced tomorrow.
The Vikings are now 24-4 (5-0 NSIC). SMSU drops to 15-10 (3-2 NSIC).
The 16-inning affair is the longest game on record in Augustana softball history.
Ashley Meyer pitched all 16.0 innings, earning 13 strikeouts and giving up eight hits. The junior set a record for innings pitched. She improves to 12-1.
Elizabeth Murray earned the only RBI for the Vikings with her game-winning home run.
Lindsay Spanton and Murray had two hits in the afternoon to lead Augustana.

Jenny Brown and break a scoreless game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Christine Borowiak hit a home run for SMSU, tying the game 1-1.
Both teams had scoring opportunities, but it wasn't until the top of the 16th that Murray led off batting and smacked a homerun to give Augustana the win.
The Vikings travel to Bemidji, Minn., on Saturday for a doubleheader against Bemidji State followed by a trip to Duluth, Minn., on Sunday to face Minnesota Duluth in a doubleheader. Both games will begin at noon.
