BEMIDJI, Minn. - No. 17 Augustana picked up a doubleheader sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday, 7-0, 2-1, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball in Bemidji, Minn.
Augustana improves to 26-4 (7-0 NSIC), while BSU drops to 1-13 (0-6 NSIC).
In the first game,
Ashley Meyer had another stellar outing, throwing a complete-game six-hit shutout. Meyer struck out six in improving to 13-1 this season.
Taylor Kapsh had four RBIs and three hits in the game. Also with three hits was
Theresa McMahon.
BSU made two throwing errors in the second inning. The first kept
Lindsay Spanton from being thrown out at second base and the second allowed Brittany Couful to reach first base. Spanton and Couful were two of five Vikings to score in the inning, bringing the Augustana lead to 5-0.
Kapsch then singled in the third inning to score
Chelsey Durland.
Chelsi Winskowski scored the Vikings' final run in the fifth inning off a single from Kapsch.
In the second game of the twinbill Augustana got on the board first in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Jenny Brown scoring Coufal.
BSU had an answer in the top of the sixth to tie the score 1-1.
Brown doubled to left field in the seventh inning to score Augustana's winning run.
Due to poor field conditions at Minnesota Duluth, the Vikings will play UMD tomorrow in Bemidji, Minn. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
