SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 4-seeded Regis (Colo.) smashed three homers en route to a 5-0 victory over No. 1-seeded Augustana in the first round of the Central 1 Regional held at Bowden Field Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
RU improves to 33-22. Augustana is now 45-9.
RU hurler Bianca Holley allowed just four hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out five to improve her record to 20-10.
Ashley Meyer (24-5) pitched all 7.0 innings for the Vikings. She allowed nine hits while striking out eight batters.
Sara Baumberger had two home runs in the Ranger win. Natalie Adami also had a bomb.
Four Vikings had hits with
Kelsey Kalkman leading the team with two.
Baumberger began the sixth inning by driving the ball over the left field fence to break a scoreless tie. Adami followed with a home run of her own to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, Regis had two runners on when Baumberger hit her second homer of the game.
Augustana fought for a rally in the bottom of the inning, but
Theresa McMahon ground into the third out, leaving three Vikings on base.
The Vikings will face the loser of No. 2-seeded Minnesota Duluth and No. 3-seeded Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. RU will play the winner of that game at 11 a.m.
