Vikings blast their way to a first round Super Regional win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.
- Ashley Meyer pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout for No. 7 Augustana to top No. 14 Minnesota State 4-0 Friday in the first round of the Super Regional at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Vikings improve to 50-9. Minnesota State drops to 51-14.

It was Meyer's 12th complete shutout of the season. She struck out 11 batters in 7.0 innings in the circle.

Kendra Huettl (29-8) suffered the loss for MSU, giving up seven hits.

Fransen led the team with two hits in the game. Her first hit was a triple to begin the bottom of the second. Fransen reached home off a single from Lindsay Spanton. The Vikings pulled ahead to a 2-0 lead from Taylor Kapsch's single to right field.

Chelsey Durland smashed her fourth homer of the season in the fourth.

Fransen's hit in the fifth scored the Vikings' final run.

The Maverick's lone hit was from Natalie Spicer in the top of the sixth. A fly out from Julie O'Neil and Lindsay Erickson's strike out ended the inning without the Maverick's scoring.

Augustana faces MSU for a second game in the Super Regional tomorrow at 1 p.m. With a Viking loss, the two teams will face each other again at 3:30 p.m. The winner of the Super Regional will travel to Salem, Va., for the NCAA Championships May 26-30.
