MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State outshot Augustana 33-3 to defeat the Vikings 4-1 in both teams' season-opening game Thursday evening in Mankato, Minn.
The contest was non-conference.
Mackenzie Trom led the Vikings with two shots, both were on goal.
MSU got on the board in the first nine minutes of action and less than five minutes later went up 2-0.
The Vikings' lone goal was scored at 15:51 off Augustana's first shot of the game. It was Trom who found the back of the net off an assist by
Jessie Huff.
Brittany Henry scored her second goal of the game for the Mavericks at 49:48 in the second half to bring MSU up 3-1.
A penalty kick from Emily Moris gave MSU its final goal in the 59th minute.
Amanda Wagner made 11 saves for Augustana. Molly McGough had one save for the Mavericks.
The Vikings welcome Fort Lewis (Colo.) to Morstad Field Sunday at noon.
