OMAHA, Neb. – Augustana first defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) before dropping to Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-0 (14-25, 23-25, 21-25) to open its season Friday at the Nebraska-Omaha Showcase.
Dani Haley handed out 23 assists to lead Augustana in its win over SOSU.
Haley distributed to a host of hitters in the Viking win;
Holly Hafemeyer and
Lindsey Petersen led with eight each,
Taylor Hrdlichka had six and
Jordan Spatenka notched five.
Petersen also finished with a team-high 10 digs.
The Vikings held the Savage Storm to a .000 hitting percentage in the opening set and .060 for the match.
Augustana countered with a .276 hitting percentage for the contest, including performances of better than .300 in the final two sets.
The Vikings also charted eight team blocks, getting four each from Hafemeyer and Hrdlichka.
Chelsea White's 22 assists and Lunden Azuara's match-high 16 digs paced the SOSU.
Hafemeyer paced the Vikings' performance against UAFS, recording 18 kills.
Haley also had a strong performance with 31 assists.
Augustana let the second set slip away after leading 23-22. UAFS managed three straight points off a kill, service ace and a Viking attack error.
The Vikings had a .250 hitting percentage in the set with 15 kills.
The Vikings return to the court at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow for the final day of the UNO Showcase.
