SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana made quick work of U-Mary, sweeping the Marauders 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23) Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.
It's the first conference win for the Vikings as they move to 7-4 (1-2 NSIC) on the season. U-Mary drops to 2-10 (1-3 NSIC).
Jordan Spatenka had an outstanding game for Auguastana, recording 16 kills and a .419 hitting percentage.
Taylor Hrdlichka was also in double digit kills with 10.
Augustana also had strong offensive performances from
Holly Hafemeyer and
Courtney Ysker. They each had nine kills.
Dani Haley had 44 assists.
The Vikings opened the match strong with a .556 hitting percentage and had 18 kills. Augustana held the advantage from the beginning and Hrdlichka finished off U-Mary 25-17 with a kill.
Augustana picked up its first solid lead after a tie at 10-10 in the second set. Ysker recorded two kills to give the Vikings a 12-10 lead. Augustana continued to break away from the Marauders at 20-17 as
Brooke Lewko smashed a kill,
Christine Bielski dumped in a service ace and Ysker fired another kill to bring the Vikings ahead 22-17. Augustana won the set 25-21 and hit .310 with 17 kills.
Although Augustana held the advantage throughout the final set, U-Mary was never far behind. With the Vikings needing just one more point to close out the match, the Marauders picked up three-straight points to trail by one at 24-23. Hafemeyer came up big for Augustana, recording a kill to give the Vikings the win. Augustana held U-Mary to a .143 hitting percentage in the set. It was the lowest the Marauders hit all evening.
The Vikings welcome conference opponent Northern State to the Elmen Center on Saturday at 3 p.m.
