Augustana makes quick work of Northern State

- Augustana held Northern State to a .158 attack percentage as the Vikings picked up a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) sweep Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate volleyball.

It was the second sweep of the weekend for the Vikings as they improve to 8-4 (2-2 NSIC). NSU drops to 6-6 (1-4 NSIC).

Augustana had six blocks in the match and allowed the Wolves just one.

Holly Hafemeyer and Taylor Hrdlichka led Augustana's offense with ten kills apiece.

Dani Haley recorded 35 assists. Four Vikings had double-figure digs.

Haley opened the match with an ace to give Augustana an immediate advantage. With the Vikings leading 13-9, Augustana won four-straight points to gain a further edge on the Wolves. Taylor Hrdlichka finished off NSU 25-18 with two kills. The Vikings had 16 kills in the set and held NSU to just eight.

The Vikings found themselves trailing early in the second set but stole the lead 10-9 after Haley smashed a service ace. Augustana and NSU continued to exchange leads throughout the set. With NSU leading 22-21, the Vikings captured three-straight points to take the lead, 24-22. The Wolves edged closer to stealing the lead back after a Viking service error brought the score to 24-23, but Hafemeyer fired a kill to give the Vikings the set, 25-23. Offensively, both teams struggled with errors during the set. Augustana hit .190, while NSU hit .133. Both teams recorded 13 kills.

Augustana came out ready to play in the final set, jumping on a 7-2 lead. The Vikings kept its lead throughout the set and Brooke Lewko finished off NSU 25-19, recording her seventh kill of the afternoon. Augustana hit .351 with 16 kills.

The Vikings gear up for three matches this week as they travel to Wayne State on Tuesday (7 p.m.), Bemidji State on Friday (7 p.m.) and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday (4 p.m.).
