OMAHA, Neb.
– Augustana fought for a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21) win over Northwest Missouri State before slipping 3-0 (25-27, 15-25, 20-25) to Nebraska-Kearney in the final day of the Nebraska-Omaha Showcase Saturday.

The Vikings split both days at the tournament to move their record to 2-2 overall.

In the first match of the day, Augustana jumped out to 1-0 lead with a .500 hitting percentage in the set before NWMS took the second set by three points. The Vikings stole the final two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-21, respectively.

Offensively, Holly Hafemeyer was very sound, hitting .405 with 17 kills.

Dani Haley had 42 assists.

Holding up the defense was Kayla Wallerich, Lindsey Petersen and Courtney Ysker with nine digs each. Haley recorded eight.

The Vikings held NWMS to a .208 hitting percentage while Augustana hit .261.

In the opening set against UNK, Augustana held a 7-3 lead before the Lopers came back to knot the score 9-9. The score continued to flip-flop until UNK ran away with the set with a pair of kills after a 25-25 tie.

The Lopers had a four-point run in the second set with the Vikings down 14-16. Augustana earned just one more point in the set off a kill by Hafemeyer.

In the final set, Augustana had back-to-back kills from Hrdlichka and Ysker to bring the Vikings' deficit to 20-24, but it was not enough as the Lopers had a kill to win the match.

Both Hafemeyer and Hrdlichka recorded 11 kills. Haley had 36 assists and Petersen had nine digs. 

Offensively, Augustana struggled hitting just .168 while UNK put together a .244 hitting percentage.

Augustana continues non-conference competition Sept. 9 and 10 at the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragon Classic.
