BEMIDJI, Minn. -
Holly Hafemeyer blasted 20 kills to lead Augustana to a 3-1 ( 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Bemidji State Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.
Hafemeyer had only two errors in the match to hit .474 and help the Vikings to a 10-4 (4-2 NSIC) record. BSU falls to 4-11 (1-6 NSIC).
Jordan Spatenka added 10 kills, while
Dani Haley had 32 assists and
Kayla Wallerich recorded 22 digs.
Augustana's defense held the Beavers to a .119 hitting percentage and the Vikings hit .195.
BSU went on a five-point run to take a 7-3 lead in the first set, but Augustana fought its way back into the lead for good at 14-13 when
Courtney Ysker fired a kill. The Vikings claimed the first set 25-21 smashing 12 kills and hitting .122, while the Beavers hit just .020.
Augustana kept pace with BSU in the second set until the Beavers went on a five-point run to jump ahead to a 14-11 lead. The Beavers continued to lead the way throughout the set, winning 25-21. The Vikings only managed to hit .075.
The Vikings played their best in the third set with a .344 hitting percentage. Augustana won four points after a tie in the score at 8-8 to take a lead that was never lost. The Vikings were ahead 23-17 when Augustana had a kill from
Brooke Lewko and Haley as well as a BSU attack error to take the set.
Augustana came out determined for a victory, winning six-straight points to open the final set. Slowly the Beavers made their way back into the match, but were unsuccessful at edging a lead as the Vikings took the set 25-21 on a kill from Spatenka.
The Vikings will travel to Duluth, Minn., tomorrow to face No. 4 Minnesota Duluth at 4 p.m.
