SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana scored its own goal in the 89th minute of action against Fort Lewis (Colo.), breaking a 1-1 tie to give the Skyhawks a victory in the Vikings' home opener Sunday afternoon.
The game was non-conference.
Augustana drops to 0-2-0 on the season, while FLC improves to 2-0-0.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half, but the Skyhawks led in shots 11-4.
Just 44 seconds into the second period, Hayley Hollenga scored her third goal of the season for FLC.
Mackenzie Trom scored the lone goal for Augustana on a long shot from outside the box. It is her second goal of the season. The assist came from
Liz Bunkers.
Augustana had a pair of opportunities to score in the 78th minute of action, but FLC's Amanda Raso made the saves. She finished with five saves in the game.
A deflection off a Viking gave FLC the game-winning goal with 1:84 left of play.
Offensively, both teams were about equal in the final half. The Vikings had five shots to the Skyhawks' six.
Amanda Wagner made six saves in the game for Augustana.
Jessie Huff led the team with four shots, three were on goal.
The Vikings continue home non-conference action Friday and Saturday against Nebraska-Kearney (4 p.m.) and Minnesota, Crookston (11 a.m.), respectively.
