ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State shot 59.3 percent from the field as the Huskies rolled to an 86-61 victory over No. 22 Augustana in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball Monday evening in St. Cloud, Minn.
SCSU improves to 9-1 (5-1 NSIC). Augustana falls to 8-3 (5-2 NSIC).
Shaun Jensen led the Huskies with a game-high 18 points. Connor Niehaus added 16 points, while Tony Brooks had 12.
Cameron McCaffrey, who netted 12 points, was the lone Viking in double figures.
SCSU outrebounded Augustana 36-23--the largest negative margin for the Vikings this season.
The loss was Augustana's second straight.
SCSU orchestrated a 25-3 run in the game's first 10 minutes. Augustana's only points in that stretch came on a
Derrick De Zeeuw free throw and a
Drae Murray layup.
The momentum afforded SCSU a productive first half. The Huskies shot a blistering 67.7 percent (21 of 31) in the first half and got 13 points each from Jensen and Niehaus. SCSU also held a 20-10 rebound advantage.
The Vikings trailed 52-30 at the break.
The Huskies continued to shoot well in the second half, connecting at a 47.8-percent clip in the final 20 minutes.
SCSU led by as many as 36 points with five minutes left.
The Huskies made 27 trips to the free-throw line, while the Vikings got just 18 tries from the charity stripe.
Augustana travels to Concordia University, St. Paul tomorrow at 8 p.m.
