Alex Feeney and
Lydia Nelson combined for 44 points and 23 rebounds to lead Augustana to a 97-65 victory over Upper Iowa Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball in Fayette, Iowa.
It's the Vikings' seventh-straight win (13-3, 10-2 NSIC), and UIU drops to (1-15, 1-11 NSIC).
Feeney finished the game with 24 points and 11 rebounds to record her sixth double-double this season.
Nelson notched a season-high 20 points and 12 rebounds, marking her first-career double-double.
Shaunteva Ashley (17) and
Molly Hayes (13) also reached double-figure scoring for Augustana.
UIU's Whitney Kieffer scored a game-high 27 points.
Faith Tinklenberg put the Vikings on the scoreboard first, less than a minute into action, and Augustana didn't make another bucket until Hayes drained a jumper at 15:44 to put the Vikings ahead of UIU 4-2.
Augustana then picked up the pace and used a 14-2 run to hold an 18-4 advantage at the 8 minute, 30 second mark.
The Peacocks slowly began cut into the Vikings' lead after a 18-9 run made the score 27-22 with 3:13 remaining.
Feeney helped boost Augustana's momentum in the final minutes of the half, draining a pair of 3-pointers during a 12-4 run that left the Vikings with a 39-26 lead at the buzzer.
Augustana connected on 5 of 14 (35.7 percent) from behind the arc and shot 37.8 percent from the field. The Vikings held UIU to 23.5 percent shooting (8 of 34) as the Peacocks made just one 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes.
A string of nine Viking points three minutes into the second half gave Augustana a 20-point 48-28 lead.
The Peacocks were able to cut their deficit to 13-points with 12:17 left of play, but Feeney sunk two free throws and a jumper to stretch Augustana's lead to 61-44 at 11:36.
The Vikings reached a 30-point lead three times in the time remaining before
Shaunteva Ashley hit a jumper with 27 seconds left to finalize Augustana's 32-point victory.
Both teams had 18 turnovers, but Augustana converted them into 27 points as opposed to UIU which scored 18 points off turnovers.
Augustana connected on a 51.4 percent clip (18 of 35) from the field in the second half to finish the game shooting 44.4 percent. UIU shot 31.8 percent from the floor in the game.
The Vikings travel to Winona State tomorrow for a 5 p.m. game.
