Augustana turns in seven top finishes at Minnesota State Open, three qualify for nationals

MANKATO, Minn.
- Augustana recorded seven top finishes, including three provisional qualifying performances, Saturday at the Minnesota State Open. 

Vikings who had provisional performances include Aaron Jung who took second in the shot put (52 feet, 2 inches) and first-place finishers Henrik Hansson and Kayla Mescher in the 800-meter run (1:54.09) and in the 400-meter dash (57.51), respectively.

Other first-place finishers include 60-meter hurdler Gathin Veldhuizen (8:38) and 5,000-meter runner Paul Yak (14:57.64).

Leah Hansen won the women's 3,000-meter run (10.04.69) and Nathan Hauge finished third in the men's 3,000-meter (8:59.25). 

Katie Guse tied for first in the high jump with a leap of five feet, five inches and Travis Beniak received the top finish in the one mile with a time of 4:18.37.

Jordan Slusser finished second in the 1,000-meter run (2:33.20). 

Ryan Evans earned third place in the 5,000-meter run (15:20.85) and Kyle Blakeslee also took third but in the 1,000-meter run (3:02.85).

800-meter runner Travis Beniak clocked in at 1:56.98 for fourth place and Leah Hansen ran the one mile in 5:07.10 for fourth place.

Justin Cook also turned in a fourth-place finish in the 600-meter run (1:24.82).

In the long jump, Augustana had impressive finishes from Katie Tonner and Colleen Everson. Tonner took fourth (17 feet, 6 inches) and Everson took sixth (17 feet, 4.25 inches).

Anne Parsley (sixth place) and Everson (eighth place) sprinted the 200-meter dash in 26.28 and 26.33, respectively.

Khor Kong and Brett Anderson clocked in at 50.67 and 51.54 in the 400-meter dash to take fourth and seventh place, respectively.

CJ Hamm threw the shot put 49 feet, 2.50 inches (sixth place).

Jacob Pohlmann scored 4399 points in the heptathlon to place seventh.

Cory Sugden finished fifth in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), LeAnn Severson took sixth in the 600-meter run (1:40.84), Taylor Olson charted a seventh-place finish (22.81) in the 200-meter dash and Kirsten Noska was eighth in the triple jump (34 feet, 9.50 inches).

Augustana competes at the Iowa State Classic next Saturday.
