SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana posted its fifth straight win by downing Minnesota Duluth 82-72 Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball in Sioux Falls.
Augustana moves to 11-3 (8-2 NSIC), while UMD falls to 8-5 (5-4 NSIC).
Alex Feeney led the Vikings with a game-high 21 points; she also added six rebounds and five blocks.
Shaunteva Ashley netted 15 points off the bench, and
Emily Schulte scored 10 points.
Molly Hayes contributed eight points and dished out seven assists.
Courtney Doucette hit four 3-pointers and led UMD with 18 points.
The Vikings shot 49.1 percent (28 of 57) in the win but were outrebounded 47-37.
Augustana broke open the game with a 5-0 lead after a 3-pointer from
Lydia Nelson and two free throws from Schulte, but the Bulldogs matched their five-point run to tie the score two minutes in.
Hayes answered with a 3-pointer at 17:47 to give Augustana its lead back.
The Vikings managed to keep its advantage throughout the remainder of the half despite UMD cutting its deficit to one point multiple times.
Emily Bose drilled a jumper as time expired in the first half to put Augustana ahead 36-32.
The Vikings made 14 of 31 from the field in the half to shoot 45.2 percent. UMD shot 30.6 percent (11 of 36).
Feeney nailed a 3-pointer less than 20 seconds into the second half and Hayes dumped in a layup shortly after to give Augustana a comfortable 41-32 lead.
A fastbreak layup by Schulte gave the Vikings their first double-digit lead of the game, 45-34, with 16:32 remaining.
A 3-pointer by Feeney topped off an 11-4 Viking run that allowed Augustana to move its advantage to 59-44 at 10:07.
Augustana's largest lead of 16 points was first recorded with eight minutes and 42 seconds left of play and was matched four times over the next five minutes of action.
Hayes made a pair of free throws with three minutes remaining to give the Vikings its last 16-point lead at 74-58.
The Vikings drilled 20 of 22 free throws in the win and made seven blocks.
Augustana will remain home next Saturday to take on No. 8 Wayne State at 4 p.m.
