BOX SCORE SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustan lost its fourth straight one-goal game to Winona State, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings fall to 4-9-2 overall with a 3-7-2 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Warriors 1-0 win improves their record to 12-3-0 overall and 11-1-0 in NSIC action.
Augustana has now gone winless in their last eight games and have lost the last three with a score of 1-0.
Although Augustana was only out-shot 6-5 by the Warriors, Winona State had five shots on goal, to the Vikings' none, and eventually broke through with a goal in the 28
th minute. Devon Richards received a cross from the right wing and banked it off the far post to put the Warriors up 1-0 in the first half.
The Vikings amped up their attack, registering three shots after the Winona State goal, but couldn't put any on frame.
The second half featured much of the same as the first with the Warriors dictating the game on the offensive side of the ball. The urgency kicked in and the Vikings started to attack and the Vikings' best opportunity came in the 87
th minute for the Vikings when
Maren Werth served a direct kick and
Jessica Madson's header fell just left of the goal to the Vikings' none.
The Warriors out-shot the Vikings 10-8 in the game with five on goal.
The Vikings return to the pitch tomorrow for a match with Upper Iowa at 1 p.m. on Morstad Field.
