BOX SCORE MARSHALL, Minn. – Augustana snapped an 11-game winless streak with a 2-0 shutout victory over Southwest Minnesota State. The Vikings improve to 5-8-2 overall with a 4-8-2 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Competition. The Mustangs fall to 7-8-1 overall, 5-8-1 in NSIC play.
The Augustana offense woke up and came out firing early against the Mustangs with 12 shots, 10 on goal in the first half. In the 33
rd minute,
Sierra Erickson netted her first career goal and broke a 416 minute scoreless streak for the Vikings. Per the usual, the Augustana defense held the opposition to just two shots, one on goal.
It didn't take long after halftime for the Vikings to get back to their offensive grind.
Mackenzie Trom took a
Kara Bartels pass and put it in the back of the net in the 29
th minute for her second goal of the season. The Vikings defense held strong, limiting the Mustangs to just nine shots the entire game, four on goal with
Ashley Limmer stopping them all.
Kirsten Smith and Bartels kept the pressure on SMSU all night taking three and four shots respectively.
Augustana returns home to face cross-town rival Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
