BOX SCORE
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A 17-point outing from
Cody Schilling keyed a 73-60 Augustana victory over Northern State Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball.
Augustana moves to 14-8 (11-7 NSIC), while NSU falls to 12-10 (8-10 NSIC).
Schilling's 17 points was a game high. He was one of four Vikings in double figures.
Alex Richter poured in a career-high 15 points,
Cameron McCaffrey netted 14 and
Drae Murray had 11.
Alex Thomas' 16 points led the Wolves, who lost to Augustana at home in December.
The Vikings shot 55.2 percent (16 of 29) and drilled eight 3-pointers in the second half to pull away from NSU.
Augustana led by as many 23 points in the win.
It took the Vikings four minutes to score their first bucket--a
Brennan Olson layup--and by then the Wolves had already dropped in seven points. The lead was NSU's biggest of the night; once it was gone, Augustana's advantage stuck for the remainder of the contest.
That Viking lead came with 4:22 left in the first half when McCaffrey converted a fast-break layup to put his team ahead 21-19. The basket was part of an 8-3 run by Augustana to close the half.
The Vikings led 27-22 at the break, getting 11 points in the first 20 minutes from Schilling.
It was a 23-0 run that started four minutes into the second half that essentially sunk the Wolves. The Vikings went wild from behind the arc, receiving a trio of 3-pointers each from Murray and Richter. Augustana led 56-33 following the outburst.
NSU worked the deficit down to 14 points four times in the final four minutes.
Reserve play proved big for the Vikings. Augustana's bench accounted for 25 points.
Olson led a strong Augustana rebounding performance. His seven boards were part of a 33-26 Viking advantage in the category.
Augustana's eight 3-pointers in the second frame were the most treys in a half by the Viking this season. They were unsuccessful on four tries in the opening half.
