Augustana trounces U-Mary on Senior Night

BOX SCORE

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana guards Cameron McCaffrey, Drae Murray and Cody Schilling combined for 56 points to help Augustana post an 89-66 victory over U-Mary Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball.

Augustana moves to 15-8 (12-7 NSIC), while U-Mary falls to 6-17 (5-14 NSIC).

McCaffrey finished with a game-high 22 points, Murray checked in with 18 and Schilling netted 16.  The trio also combined for 14 of Augustana's 17 assists on the evening.

Damon Smith scored 21 points to lead the Marauders.

The Vikings shot 56.1 percent (32 of 57) in the win and committed a season-low four turnovers.

Augustana led the entire game en route to its second win over U-Mary this season.

An 8-0 run by Augustana to open the game looked to put the Marauders on their backs early, but U-Mary managed to trim the deficit to two points five minutes in.

The Vikings, however, would never trail in opening 20 minutes and grabbed their first double-figure lead--a 32-22 advantage--at the 6:48 mark.

McCaffrey connected on a 3-pointer with 1:36 left in the half to put his team ahead 43-26 and give the Viking their largest lead of the frame at 17 points.

A 56.3-percent shooting performance by Augustana in the first half put the Vikings in a comfortable 46-31 lead at intermission.

Murray and McCaffrey teamed up for nearly half of the Vikings' first-half points, collaborating for 21 of Augustana's 46.  Murray had 11 on a trio of 3-pointers, while McCaffrey scored 10.

The hot shooting continued for Augustana in the second half as the Vikings connected at a 56.0-percent (14 of 25) clip in the final 20 minutes.  The precision kept the Marauders at least 13 points away for the rest of the game.

Augustana's lead reached 21 points when Murray sunk a pair of free throws with six minutes left for a 76-55 difference.

The Vikings' largest lead, 27 points, was made possible by a McCaffrey 3-pointer with 2:30 left and again when Murray drilled another 3-pointer with 1:21 to go.

Augustana's 56.1-percent performance from the floor was its third highest this season.

The contest marked the last regular-season home game for Augustana's three active seniors: Murray, Schilling and Derrick De Zeeuw.  Nate Truex, who would have been a senior this season but was forced to give up basketball due to an injury, was recognized with the other seniors prior to the game.

Augustana plays at Wayne State next Saturday at 6 p.m.
